As homeowners we all experience door-to-door salesman, "educating" us on how to save money by switching to solar energy with the no cost solar program. We are all under the conjecture that unless we have $32,000 in cash, only those upper-income families can afford solar panel arrays. They say when it sounds too good to be true it probably is, it is time to open your mind, the future is now. I am about to electrocute your views and opinions on what you have been told!
Thanks to the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES), electricity corporations also known as your local power company, are required to lower their carbon emissions by the year 2020. In doing so they receive an allowance from the federal government, to help local residents help them achieve the goal of reducing their carbon emissions. These electric providers pay a portion of the solar pv systems known as solar panels. This is how the no cost solar program came about. These rebates help residents lower their total cost of the solar panels, while lowering their electricity bill or in a lot of cases not having an electricity bill anymore. First there's the federal tax credit (ITC) that comes to 30% of the actual cost of the system. 30% is a big number to help pay for those solar panels we all dream of having! Wait! There's more! That's not the only incentive available! On top of the 30% ITC, local power companies pay a portion towards the panels of anywhere from 10% to 20%! Imagine the savings you get just from installing solar panels.
One big misconception a lot of people have about solar panels is that you will have two bills, the payment for the panels on top of your current light bill. Solar companies only sell you the number of panels needed to cover your homes electricity consumption. What that means is that they will put enough panels to cover majority of your electric usage. Most people who switch to solar energy end up not having a bill from their current electric provider at all. Solar companies set up financing payments to be lower than what they pay now! Most solar companies offer free in home consultations. An energy consultant shows up to your home and explains the benefits of solar, gives you advice on how to minimize consumption, and shows you options on how to make the switch for no money up front. We encourage everyone who is interested in saving money to do so soon! Solar rebates and incentives are running out quick! Once your local power company reaches their goal they will stop offering the rebates.
